Longevity and Care Instructions

At Bonnetje, we believe that taking care of your clothes ensures they stay looking great, last longer and take care of the environment. Follow these simple steps to keep your  garments in top shape, no matter the fabric:

Keep Pests Away:
Some natural fibers, like wool, are especially vulnerable to pests such as moths. To protect your clothes from wool-eating insects, we recommend hanging a piece of cedar wood in your wardrobe. Cedar acts as a natural repellent and helps keep pests away, while also providing a fresh, pleasant scent to your closet.

Airing Out Instead of Washing:
Frequent washing can cause fabric to wear out more quickly. Many fabrics, including wool, cashmere, and even cotton, benefit from a little fresh air instead. Instead of washing after every wear, try hanging your garments outside in a well-ventilated space or near an open window. Fresh air helps eliminate odors and keeps your clothes feeling fresh without unnecessary wear.

Spot Clean When Possible:
For small stains or marks, consider spot cleaning rather than washing the entire garment. Use a mild detergent and cold water for delicate spots, which can prevent fabric from losing its shape or texture. This helps preserve the longevity of your clothing without subjecting it to frequent washing.

Proper Storage:
When storing your garments, ensure they are in a cool, dry place. Avoid overcrowding your closet to allow fabrics to breathe. Use padded hangers for delicate items and consider cotton garment bags for off-season storage, especially for items made from natural fibers. This protects them from dust and pests, ensuring they remain in great condition.

Wash with Care:
When it's time to wash your clothes, always check the care label for specific instructions. Many fabrics, such as delicate silks or wool, require special attention—whether that's hand washing in cold water or taking them to a professional dry cleaner. For machine washing, use a gentle cycle and mild detergents to preserve your garments' fabric and colors.

By following these simple care tips, you can enjoy your clothes for much longer while keeping them in pristine condition, season after season.
